The Musket Story
Story added by Mark Maxim of the OHS on July 17, 2025.
On August 11, 1889, an article in the Boston Globe referred to a musket that was traded to the Indians for the lands of Onset. As the story goes, Benjamin F. Gibbs sold the land to the native Indians for a musket.

This is what the flint lock may have looked like. Only speculation as it could be a number of models and sizes.

As you can see from the clipping, the Indians must have sold it back to Major Thomas B. Griffith in the association.
A $50 reward is offered for the location of the musket. Definitive proof must be supplied.
