Frequently Asked Questions
Why do we need another historical society when we have Wareham Historical Society?
The Onset Historical Society supports the Wareham Historical Society in all they do. Onset’s history is Wareham History. Onset also has a significant history that differs from most all towns on the Eastern seaboard at that time, including Wareham. This is what we will be capturing and sharing.
What will it cost?
Nothing. In the future a membership structure may be put in place. As of now, there is no need to ask as the OHS is Virtual. The web site and other media outlets will be managed by the administrator.
Who is leading this effort?
The effort will be led by Mark Maxim and Marie Strawn. Both are lifelong Onset residents and have been collecting Onset postcards and ephemera for many years. They have always been interested in Onset’s history and want to share that interest with others of a like mind.
Who can participate??
Anyone! It is open to public participation.
Where will it be held?
A location has not been determined yet. The OHS meetings and events will be open to the public.
Will there be a board?
A board will be selected after a few public meetings to be held during 2025.
What is a Virtual Historical Society?
A Virtual Historical Society is where all the historical collections are not at a central physical location and the ownership of the collections remain in position of the owners. The website is a portal to those collections. On occasion, the collectors will get together and bring some of their collection for public viewing.
Are there other questions that need answering?
